Nina Canell
Nina Canell investigates in her artistic practice the expressive possibilities and inner essence of ordinary objects. She poetically reveals intangible, hidden and unnoticed physical and scientific processes. Canell often unites elements that might seem contradictory, allowing them to develop their own logic and power. A recurring element in Canell’s work is sound. Her new work Metabolic Music (2023) was created especially for the n.b.k. Editions collection. The work takes the shape of an ordinary cooking pot but is cast in bronze combined with ready-made cymbals – a transformation that imbues the work with the potential to become a musical instrument.
Nina Canell (*1979 in Växjö / Sweden, lives and works in Berlin) has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at Berlinische Galerie (2022); OGR, Turin (2022); Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (2019); Stedelijk Museum of Contemporary Art, Geneva (2018); Kunstmuseum St. Gallen (2018); Nordic Pavilion, Venice Biennale (2017); Museo Tamayo, Mexico City (2017); Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2014); Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin (2017).
