Mona Hatoum
Mona Hatoum explores themes of displacement, marginalisation, exclusion and state control, which she examines against the backdrop of both her own biography and current social developments. Hatoum has developed a language in which familiar, domestic everyday objects are often transformed into foreign, threatening and dangerous things. The work Untitled (stick) (2011) seems to contradict the stability of a walking stick, as it turns out to be cast in polyurethane rubber and hardly able to support itself.
Hatoum has participated in numerous important group exhibitions, including Documenta (2017; 2002) and the Venice Biennale (2005; 1995).
