Istvan Kantor (aka Monty Cantsin? aka Amen!)
In the late 1970s, the video and performance artist Istvan Kantor (also known as Monty Cantsin? and/or Amen!) (*1949 in Budapest, lives in Toronto) co-founded Neoism, a subcultural network of artistic actionists and media experimenters that collectively used the identity of “Monty Cantsin.” Kantor’s own work in the late 1970s and early 1980s was largely focused on Blood Campaign, an ongoing series of performances in which he splashed his own blood on walls and canvases, or into the audience. His work also includes sound installations and performances with electrically modified filing cabinets.
