Dara Birnbaum
In her video collages and installations, Dara Birnbaum (*1946 in New York, lives in New York) deconstructs the manipulative power of televised images and the gender stereotypes they transmit and reproduce. A characteristic feature of Birnbaum’s work is the sampling, fragmentation, and reassemblage of genre-typical elements from common television formats, thus using repetition to distill and subvert the normative models upon which they are based.
