Bjørn Melhus
Bjørn Melhus (*1966 in Kirchheim / Germany, lives in Berlin) is part of the first generation to experience private television in Europe. Since the early 1990s, his videos and installations have examined the possibilities of a critical reception of the roles and patterns of perception shaped by mass media. Through formal and thematic repetition with a deliberately regressive attitude, his works reflect on the expansion and habituation of media reception. He combines sampled audio fragments from television and pop music with his own video material. In this material, Melhus appears as a protagonist – fully embodying his characters, who are trapped in their media-based world and deconstructed through exaggeration.
