Angela Melitopoulos
Angela Melitopoulos (*1961 in Munich, lives in Berlin) studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf / Germany with Nam June Paik, received her Ph.D. from Goldsmiths, University of London and was a professor at Det Kongelige Akademi in Copenhagen. In her video essays and installations, experimental documentaries, photographs, and sound pieces, Melitopoulos explores the production of subjectivity and collective memory in the context of mobility, migration, and geography. She often defamiliarizes image and sound material through digital manipulation, creating multilayered visual collages with documentary-like elements. Subsequent image processing allows viewers to draw conclusions about the relationship between imaginary and pictorial spaces.
