Artist Talk Gülsün Karamustafa
Thursday, Feb 16, 2023, 7 pm
With Yilmaz Dziewior (Director of the Museum Ludwig in Cologne) and Gülsün Karamustafa, moderated by Lidiya Anastasova (Curator, Head of n.b.k. Artothek)
Gülsün Karamustafa is one of Turkey’s most significant artists, who strongly influenced younger generations of artists – not least because of her fight for democracy and freedom of expression. Since the 1990ies, Karamustafa’s artistic practice is mostly based on profound historical, site-specific and socio-political research, and explores themes of migration, exclusion, state violence, religion, urbanization, feminism, and gender.
The artist talk will provide insight into Gülsün Karamustafa’s multifaceted oeuvre as well as her project Irreversible Remnants, which is on view until February 24, 2023 as part of the series n.b.k. Billboard.
