Ana Hoffner ex-Prvulovic*, La Haluca – A Pioneer Girl
Saturday, Oct 10, 2026, 7 pm
La Haluca (“The Pioneer Woman”) refers to a historical text by the Bosnian-Jewish writer Luna Laura Papo Bohoreta (1891–1942), which artist Ana Hoffner ex-Prvulovic* takes up in her performance. The Haluca emerges as a projection figure in which Jewish self-determination and feminist emancipation intertwine. Ana Hoffner ex-Prvulovic*’s performance takes up this figure of the Jewish woman as pioneer. Through selected biographies of individuals widely known today, the work brings renewed attention to Jewish history in the Yugoslav region – a history overwritten by the Shoah, by the memory politics of socialist Yugoslavia, and by the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s, and one that remains, to this day, only tenuously part of collective memory in the region and beyond.
